The Republican Death Spiral
"As the party has shrunk to its base, it has catered even more to its base's biases, insisting that the New Deal made the Depression worse, carbon emissions are fine for the environment and tax cuts actually boost revenues -- even though the vast majority of historians, scientists and economists disagree. The RNC is about to vote on a kindergartenish resolution to change the name of its opponent to the Democrat Socialist Party. This plays well with hard-core culture warriors and tea-party activists convinced that a dictator-President is plotting to seize their guns, choose their doctors and put ACORN in charge of the Census, but it ultimately produces even more shrinkage, which gives the base even more influence -- and the death spiral continues."
And it frankly couldn't happen to a better (worse?) bunch. The party of "NO", the party that says that the budget should be cut and whines when it's not done their way, the party that has been catered to over and over since President Obama took office, yet the party who has only THREE members that can even attempt to be bipartisan (and now that's two...Specter got wise and left the GOP).
The Republican Party used to stand for something...personal liberty, fiscal responsibility, freedom, values. Now it only stands for bigotry, waste, and government intrusion into the personal lives of citizens...and it's values equate to justifying torture and needless wars.
A party I was once proud to be a member of is now just a mouthpiece for Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, Michelle Malkin, and the Religious Right.
