Senate Committee Passes
National Criminal Justice Commission Act of 2009

The bi-partisan National Criminal Justice Commission Act of 2009 (S. 714) was passed out of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary today by voice vote. The legislation, sponsored by Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.) would create a commission to conduct a thorough evaluation of the nation's justice system and offer recommendations for reform at every stage of the criminal justice system.

Ricky and Amanda met at an Iowa  teen club on a Saturday night in December of 2005.  Ricky was 16 and Amanda told him she was nearly the same age.  They got to talking, learned they were from the same town outside the area and hit it off.  They started dating and had sex on two occasions, definitely not the right thing for kids that age to do, but not uncommon.  It ended when Amanda told Ricky's mother she was only 14 and asked her not to reveal this to Ricky.  Actually, she was 13.

If it were not a real threat to human and civil rights it could be a bestselling novel of the Orwellian style. Unfortunately this phenomenon has become all too real. 

Starting with the sex offender registry, governments around the world have begun to classify people and to register them like they were property. For most people the registering of sex offenders seemed like a good idea. The thought that a parent could look at an up-to-date list of all sex offenders in their area had an appeal to it.
