Decades Later, Man Has His Name Cleared of Rape

Though confronting severe mental illness, Frederick "Freddie" Peacock waged a battle for almost three decades to clear his name of a 1976 rape.

He served six years in prison, and 10 years on parole. He even fought to stay on parole, apparently thinking it would help him prove his innocence if he was still under state supervision.

The "juvenile sex offender": Myth in the making?

Book describes harmful effects of labeling and treatment

In the past 30 years, a vast cottage industry has sprung up to treat and warehouse juvenile sex offenders. Whereas in 1982 the United States had 20 programs to treat such youths, by 2002 that number had skyrocketed to upwards of 1,300 specialized programs, most of them private, for-profit residential centers. What is especially startling about the continuing expansion of this fledgling industry is that rates of serious offending, including sex offending, by juveniles is staying steady or even declining.

In The Perversion of Youth, forensic psychologist Frank DiCataldo says this new field may be harming both youth and society, by labeling typical delinquents as sexual monsters and thereby forcing them down a deviant path from which there is little hope of escape. In other words, our very process of labeling and treatment may breathe life into the bogeyman of our cultural imagination.

About Pedophiles, Molesters and Types of
Sexual Abusers

Not all pedophiles are child molesters.

A child molester is an individual who sexually molests children. A pedophile might have a sexual preference for children and fantasize about having sex with them, but if he does not act on that preference or those fantasies, he is not a child molester.

It is almost impossible to estimate how many pedophiles exist who have never molested a child. What society can or should do with such individuals is an interesting area for discussion but beyond the role of investigators or prosecutors. People cannot be arrested and prosecuted just for their fantasies.

Not all child molesters are pedophiles. A pedophile is an individual who prefers to have sex with children. A person who prefers to have sex with an adult partner may, for any number of reasons, decide to have sex with a child. Such reasons might include simple availability, opportunity, curiosity, or a desire to hurt a loved one of the molested child. The erotic imagery and sexual fantasies of such individuals are not necessarily recurrent, intense, and focused on children; therefore, these people are not pedophiles. They are called situational abusers.

Registered Citizen “Where will it end?”

If it were not a real threat to human and civil rights it could be a bestselling novel of the Orwellian style. Unfortunately this phenomenon has become all too real.

Starting with the sex offender registry, governments around the world have begun to classify people and to register them like they were property. For most people the registering of sex offenders seemed like a good idea. The thought that a parent could look at an up-to-date list of all sex offenders in their area had an appeal to it.

The police want to talk to you, what do you do?

1-22-2010 National:

Folks, I just watched two videos -approximately 45 minutes- which answers the question. If you do nothing else today spend the time to watch these videos.

I STRONGLY ADVISE every parent to watch these, and to have their kids watch them as well. The advice may keep your kids off the sex offender registry, is that enough incentive?

Video one:

Video two:

Do not misss a single minute of either videos.

Have a great day and a better tomorrow.
